The Seven-Year-Old Traffic Warden
This morning, as usual, I went out for my walk. And then I saw something that touched me deeply.
A little boy, perhaps seven or eight years old, was gently holding the hand of an elderly man and helping him cross the road.It was a small gesture. But its meaning was enormous.
The boy did not show off. He did not try to attract anyone’s attention. He simply... held the man’s hand.Walked slowly.Looked left. Then right, like a little traffic warden with a very big heart.
I stood there for a moment watching them. And I thought to myself: perhaps there is still plenty of kindness in this world.Perhaps good values are still being passed from one generation to another. And perhaps, as parents and grandparents, we are not doing such a bad job after all.
That little boy probably had no idea how much his simple act meant. But I am sure that when he grows up, that kindness will remain with him.Perhaps one day he will teach it to his own children. And they will pass it on to theirs.
That is how good values survive — not always through long lectures, but through small acts of example. In today's fast-moving world, surrounded by smartphones, social media and technology, we sometimes wonder where our humanity has gone. This morning, I found my answer. It was there on a pedestrian crossing.
I hope parents and grandparents will continue to teach our children these simple acts of kindness — helping an elderly person, greeting someone, saying thank you, giving way, or simply offering a hand to someone who needs it. The world becomes a better place through such small gestures.
Sometimes, it begins with a small hand holding an older hand. And helping someone safely across the road.Sometimes, the best news of the day isn't in the newspaper. It's on the zebra crossing. 🚸
